Maine in Motion School Program
The Governor’s Council on Physical Activity invites all schools in the state of Maine to take part in the Maine in Motion physical activity program.  This is a great way to add more physical activity into your students daily routine.  Physical activity can be incorporated in many ways – in math, science, and health classes.  We have developed a school site manual to help coordinators in setting up this program in their classroom/school.  The full manual, which includes lesson plans that meet Maine Learning Results criteria, is available on CD-R for $10 by going to www.wsemerson.com/maineinmotion.  Select sections of the manual are provided below for downloading at no cost.

Earn Challenge Medals
We have designed a special eight (8) week program for schools to use with their students.  We find this works best given school and summer vacations.  Students can choose to record steps using a pedometer or record their time spent on physical activity each day. Students can earn challenge medals by taking part in the 8-week program. The criteria is as follows:

  • Students must complete and return a student registration form (signed by their parent/guardian).
  • Students must set a goal for the 8-week program and enter it on the top of their personal fitness calendar.
  • At the end of the 8-week program, students must submit their completed personal fitness calendar.
  • Site coordinators will return both the registration forms and completed physical activity logs to the Maine in Motion office for review.
  • Students who return their completed registration form and fitness calendar and meet the below requirements will be eligible for a medal:
Gold Medal – record activity at least 6 times per week for 6 weeks meeting your step or time goal.
Silver Medal – record activity at least 5 times per week for 5 weeks meeting your step or time goal.
Bronze Medal – record activity at least 4 times per week for 5 weeks meeting your step or time goal.

If students have access to a computer, they can also sign-up and record their activity online.  Make sure students enter their school name on the registration form.
