www.maineahperd.org- The Maine Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance is a nonprofit organization for professionals and students in related fields of health, physical education, recreation, and dance.  MAHPERD is dedicated to improving the quality of life for all Mainers by supporting and promoting effective educational practices, quality curriculum, instruction, the Maine Learning Results, and assessment in the areas of health, physical education, recreation, dance, and related fields.

www.usm.maine.edu/lifeline - Lifeline, a University Extension department within USM, is committed to helping you acquire and maintain healthy lifestyle habits that will enhance your physical, emotional, and psychological well being.

www.maine-nutrition.org - The Maine Nutrition Network (MNN) is a collaboration of public and private partners that coordinate nutrition activities to create an environment that supports the health of Maine people.

www.winterkids.org - WinterKids is a non-profit organization whose mission is to help Maine children develop life-long habits of health, education, and fitness through outdoor winter activities.  Their flagship program, the WinterKids Passport, lets every Maine 5th, 6th, and 7th grader enjoy free alpine and cross-country skiing all winter long.  

www.beach2beacon.org/beachtobeacon/index.html - Peoples Beach to Beacon 10K Road Race - this year taking place on August 2, 2003 - is a 6.2 mile run, starting at Crescent Beach and ending at Portland Head Light, the nation's first commissioned lighthouse.  Last year the race attracted over 5,000 runners, along with over 12,000 spectators, to the Maine coast, making it the largest road race ever in the Pine Tree State.  Joan Benoit Samuelson (the Council's current Co-Chair) is the founder and chair of the Peoples Beach to Beacon 10K.

www.BikeMaine.org - Through safety, education, and access advocacy, the Bicycle Coalition of Maine is working to promote bicycling to enhance our communities, environment, and economy.  They are a membership-based, nonprofit organization.  

www.mainecahc.org - Maine Consumers for Affordable Health Care.  On this site you will find up-to-date information about their efforts to improve access to health care in Maine.  Features of the site include: all the latest news and information about health care in Maine; detailed information about their research and direct service projects; information on the Consumers for Affordable Health Care Coalition and their legislative priorities; a downloadable version of our health care guide -- Navigating Maine's Health Care System:  A Handbook; and dozens of links to useful health care sites on the world wide web. 

www.healthymainewalks.org - Healthy Maine Walks provides a central location for towns and local groups to register walks.  It is sponsored by a coalition of trail and health agencies and organizations working to build a healthier Maine.  The site makes it easier for Mainers to find and use walking routes in communities all across the state.

www.moveandimprove.org - The Move & Improve program of Eastern Maine Healthcare Systems is a community-based program designed to encourage and empower individuals to engage in a healthier lifestyle through physical activity.  It is a 12-week program designed to increase the amount of physical activity you engage in on a daily/weekly basis.

www.krrt.org - The Kennebec River Rail Trail is a planned 6.5 mile path linking Gardiner, Hallowell, Farmingdale, and Augusta.

www.physicalfitness.org - The National Association for Health & Fitness (NAHF) is a not-for-profit organization that exists to improve the quality of life for individuals in the United States through the promotion of physical fitness, sports, and healthy lifestyles and by fostering and supporting State Governor's Councils on Physical Fitness and Sports in every state and U.S. territory.

www.fitness.gov - The President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports (PCPFS) serves as a catalyst to promote, encourage, and motivate Americans of all ages to become physically active and participate in sports.

www.presidentschallenge.org - The President's Council on Physical Fitness has released a new online program designed to help Americans maintain a regular physical activity routine.  The tool tracks participants' progress in performing various activities, which can eventually lead to a Presidential Active Lifestyle Award.  The site is designed for individuals, families, schools, businesses, and organizations.
